Use Cases

RansomStop is designed to protect data that is required for business operations.  A single ransomed laptop will not bring your business to a halt, but a critical piece of infrastructure like a database or application can have a profound impact. RansomStop is deployed in a targeted way to keep the footprint small, management easy, and protect your business from ransomware encryption that can stop or slow down your business operations.  Here are some common use cases where RansomStop can be used to protect your business from downtime due to ransomware attacks.

Critical Business Infrastructure

Some servers can have a higher impact on your business if they get encrypted with ransomware.  These are often targets of ransomware groups because they are exposed, have a history of vulnerabilities, or are high value targets.  These can include:

  • Web Servers

  • Application Servers

  • SharePoint Servers

  • SQL Servers

  • Domain Controllers

  • File Servers

RansomStop can automatically stop encryption as soon as it starts and protect these servers from operational downtime, keeping your company and business functions up and running.

Hypervisors

Hypervisors are what Virtual Machines run on.  Hypervisors are targeted by ransomware groups because when they encrypt the hypervisor, all the VMs that run on the hypervisor are encrypted.  Typically hypervisors don't run endpoint security tools, making them defenseless against ransomware.  RansomStop can detect and stop ransomware attacks on hypervisors in seconds.

Network Attached Storage

Network Attached Storage (NAS) are appliances that provide network file-sharing for groups of users.  NAS appliances typically don't have any endpoint security products, and can often have their data encrypted through Remote Encryption, where an infected endpoint that has access to the network share encrypts all the data on the appliance.  These types of attacks have a large impact because they typically encrypt data shared by teams, departments, and sometimes whole organizations to conduct daily business processes.

RansomStop currently supports Synology NAS appliances.

Cloud Storage

Cloud Storage is still an emerging threat, but one we have started to see in the wild and only expect it to grow as more companies move data to the cloud.  Cloud Storage encompasses both object storage like AWS S3 and SaaS storage services like Google Drive.
